I love Valentine’s Day. I love the sweetness, the colors, the glitter, and of course… all the treats! Two of the best things about Valentine’s Day are “Kisses & Cupcakes”… and this party had plenty of both! Becky Batchelor Photography captured all the pretty details, and our even prettier little models!
I wanted a traditional red & pink theme, so I began with a table runner made from our polka dot Big Dots Party Paper in Pink Frosting and added some sweet red felt DIY plate chargers. I’ll be posting a tutorial soon, but these chargers were such an easy and affordable way to add some extra “pop” to your seating table.
I used a pattern to cut hearts out of our Party Paper in both polka dot and chevron and secured them with ribbon to make a fun garland to string across the window. Our Simply Wood Forks were stamped with a tiny red heart to carry out the theme, and simple favor-sized Gable Boxes were personalized for each of the girls with Party Paper Ribbon and adorned with a sparkly gift tag.
And speaking of sparkle, nothing says L-O-V-E like lots of glitter! I found the most adorable glittered XOXO’s from Nicole’s Etsy shop, ”Letters from A to Z”. Inspired by those, I used craft punches and glittered card stock to make a simple but sweet garland behind the party table and also for straw toppers to make our Hearts Glass Milk Bottles even prettier. (*Glittered Card Stock coming soon to the shop!)
The gorgeous cake by The Topping Couture Cakes complimented the patterns used throughout the party perfectly. Erica decorated the cake with ombre polka dots, and finished it off with a ruffly heart inspired by the rosette tees the girls wore.
She baked up some additional love with pretty red macarons, XO cookies, strawberry heart tarts and heart-shaped sugar cookies decorated with more polka dots.
A favorite treat at any party, red and white heart-shaped cake pops by Sweet Peas Cake Pops were the very first desserts the girls asked for!
I made very simple Valentine card holders for each of the girls chairs with red felt and hot glue… super affordable and no sewing required! It is so much fun to watch little ones leave sweet notes and Valentine wishes for friends and family!
With a few party supplies and some simple DIY, it’s so much fun to celebrate Valentine’s Day and show some LOVE!

When Jen at Delightful Deets contacted me last summer regarding her daughter’s birthday, I loved the theme she had chosen and the vision she conveyed. She sent me the photos before Christmas, so I’m happy to finally get to share them with you! There are so many adorable personal touches, including a carousel horse that belonged to Jen as a child and photo collage of her daughter that reminded me of the one I did for Evie’s first birthday.
Jen chose our Pink & Blue Shimmer Gumballs, Marshmallow Pink Stripe Plates & Matching Cups, Aqua Lace Scalloped Plates, Pink Polka Dot Napkins, and Pink Polka Dot Candy Cups to help carry out her theme.
L-O-V-E the pink dresser and tassel garland (coming soon to the shop!)
Thanks, Jen, for letting us play a small part in your gorgeous party!

I’m thrilled to share our first professionally photographed “mini-party” with you, and I’m so excited to be working with Becky Batchelor Photography! When I was planning our Merry & Bright Christmas Party, I knew I wanted to use traditional red and green. By adding some touches of light blue and putting it all against a white background, the colors really popped! I had a lot of fun mixing fun patterns like polka dots, chevron and stripes in the party colors and it made the party feel more modern overall.
I used Party Paper in Blue Taffy Big Dots as a table runner to set off the crisp white of the feather trees and our Milk Glass Cake Stands and made a tassel garland as a simple but vibrant & eye-catching backdrop.
I also made the custom snowflake shirts for our little models by placing a picture of a snowflake I printed inside the shirt and using fabric glue to adhere silver rhinestones. The whole project took about an hour and only cost $12 for both shirts! My sweet Evie (left) and Becky’s daughter Sophia (right) had so much fun and did such a great job!
The Cakehole made the incredible cake and cookies that exactly complimented the colors and patterns of the theme.
Sweet Peas Cake Pops & Treats made the adorable cake pops. Can you tell how excited Sophia was to get her hands on these?
How sweet are the hair ties in Evie’s hair and the clip Sophia is wearing?! Val at Chicken Scratch’d listened to my ideas and made these especially for the shoot. Make sure to check out her shop!
When I found these pillows in the Nest2Impress shop on Etsy, I almost swooned! They added such a fun pop of color and pattern! I found the aqua vintage bench at a barn sale a while back and I’ve been dying to use it!
I took a bit of our Party Paper Ribbon and wrapped it around our extremely popular Plastic French Square Milk Bottles, and dipped the ends of our Rock Candy Sticks in a little glitter for some extra bling.
What’s a party without presents? We used our Party Paper in coordinating colors to wrap up some pretty gifts for the girls!
Thank you to all the fabulous vendors that helped us pull it all together! I had SO MUCH fun and can’t wait to get started on the next one!

There is something you should know about me: I’m a perfectionist. I’ve wanted to start blogging for a long while now, but it never seemed like the time was right. I was convinced that I needed to add more inventory, update our photos, wait until Party Paper came to market, get more parties staged, organize my office, improve the website, wait until we moved in our larger warehouse, undergo our name change, hire more help… I could go on and on. And on.
But now that SmashCake has survived and flourished in it’s first year in business, I thought it was time to give to give our little company A VOICE. I have worked so hard to make this business a success, and I’ve met some incredible people along the way. Other business owners, party stylists and of course our FABULOUS customers have inspired me every day and reminded me (even when I was tired, overwhelmed and my piles of To-Do Lists only seemed to get longer) that SmashCake was (in the immortal words of Martha Stewart) a GOOD THING!
It’s more work than I ever dreamed, but starting SmashCake is undoubtedly one of the best decisions I have ever made. I absolutely love my “job” and can’t imagine doing anything else.
So, thank you to my amazingly supportive husband, my beautiful daughter Evie, my mom, my sister, my friends, and our incredible customers. I couldn’t have made this dream come true without you.
So what am I am going to blog about? Your guess is as good as mine, but I can’t wait to find out. And it is with heartfelt gratitude that I thank YOU for taking the journey with me!
